Nasarawa: Keffi LG Chair Reverses Price Of Sachet Water To N10
BY AHMED TUKUR, LAFIA – The Chairman of Keffi Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, Hon. Muhammad Baba Shehu has directed the immediate reversal of the cost of pure water to N10 per sachet from 20 Naira.
The chairman, who gave the directive at an expanded extraordinary emergency meeting with the package water producers in the Council area, threatened to sanction anyone who goes contrary to the directive.
This was contained in a statement by the Deputy Director, Social Service in the Local Government Council, Mohammed Alhassan, who quoted the Chairman as having said that the decision of the Water producers to increase the cost of sachet water by 100 percent was only based on the interest of the production factories without putting into consideration prospective customers.
Shehu also said that the water producers did not also consult with the Local Government Council and other relevant authorities.
The LG Chairman also directed the association to submit the names of three of their members to be part of a technical committee that would work out the difference.
Shehu further warned that failure to comply with the directive will attract severe sanction on the defaulting business premise.
Earlier, the secretary of the Package Water Association in the Keffi Local Government Area, Pastor Daniel Okorie, said the hike in production material was what propelled their members to make a 100 percent increase in the price of every bag of water, adding that the increment is nationwide.
