Nasarawa Polls: Gov Sule Tells Aspirants To Shun Winner Takes All Attitude

BY AHMED TUKUR LAFIA – Governor Abdullahi Sule has cautioned aspirants against the usual winner takes all attitude as they jostle for tickets to contest the forthcoming Local Government Councils’ election in Nasarawa State.

Similarly, he has challenged the State Independent Electoral Commission (NASIEC) to put machinery in place for the smooth conduct of a free, fair, and credible election into elective offices in all the 13 Local Government Councils of the State.

The governor spoke at the public presentation of the Nasarawa State Independent Electoral Commission Regulations 2021, in Lafia, the State Capital, saying aspirants to the respective Council’s offices must be accommodative to one another in the overall interest of the State.

According to him, for the State to make meaningful gains in its socio-economic and political development strides, aspirants and candidates for political offices must adopt and embrace a give and take attitude always.

Governor Sule also explained that officially presenting the NASIEC Regulations 2021, is in furtherance of the Commission’s determination and resolve to conduct a credible election in line with the global best practice.

He lauded the Commission for being among the few states’ electoral bodies in Nigeria to evolve its homegrown internal regulatory mechanism aimed at ensuring smooth operations and functioning of the electoral umpire in Nasarawa State.

“I, therefore, charge the Commission to live above board by abiding strictly to its regulations to exercise its independence and earn the confidence of all and sundry”, the governor said

Governor Sule however urged; “Political parties, candidates and their sponsors should be law-abiding during electioneering campaigns and throughout the election period and the emergence of winners of the election.”
