BY AHMED TUKUR, LAFIA – The Nasarawa State Government has unveiled activities to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the creation of the state.
The state government has also scheduled the inauguration of selected projects and an anniversary lecture among events lined up for the celebration.
Deputy Governor of the State, Emmanuel Akabe, who announced this on Thursday at a press conference in Lafia, said the anniversary will provide an opportunity for the government and people of the state to reflect on the progress made over the past three decades.
Akabe said the event will also witness the celebration of some individuals that contributed to the creation and development of the state.
Nasarawa State was created in October 1, 1996 by the military administration of the late General Sani Abacha, alongside five other states.
Akabe said the state government would honour its founding fathers as part of the anniversary activities in recognition of their contributions to the development of Nasarawa.
He said; “It is also an occasion to acknowledge the contributions of our founding fathers, past and present governors”.
The Deputy Governor said that Professor Attahiru Jega, Chairman of the Governing Council of Nasarawa State University, would deliver the anniversary lecture.
He also said the anniversary would also provide an opportunity for the government to assess the achievements recorded by successive administrations across various sectors.
According to him; “The anniversary will equally provide a platform for reflection on the progress recorded by successive administrations in critical sectors, including education, healthcare, infrastructure, agriculture, human capital development, security, commerce and investment”.
