National Assembly Must Be Allowed Free Reign For Contestation Of Ideas – APC

BY AMOS DUNIA, ABUJA – The All Progressives Congress (APC), on Tuesday declared that while its contention with the leadership of the National Assembly as currently constituted is a matter of public record, it however believes that the legislature as an independent arm of government must be allowed free reign for vibrant contestation of ideas and values amongst its members within the context of their constitutional mandate and for the benefit of the Nigerian people.

The APC therefore condemned in the strongest terms, the invasion of the National Assembly by personnel of the Department of State Services.

A statement by the Acting National Publicity Secretary of the APC, Mr. Yekini Nabena, dissociated the Party wholly from any act of brigandage and affront on the sacred symbols of the nation’s budding democracy.

Nabena said; “Our Party remains a law abiding political organisation and advises every constituent part to abide by the tenets of our constitution and our democracy.

“We call for a more harmonious working relationship between the various Arms of Government in the general interest of the country.”

In an earlier statement, Nabena said the attempt to link the development at the National Assembly to the APC National Chairman Comrade Adams Oshiomhole is nothing but a mischief.

The APC said there is absolutely no basis for all the false allegations and attempt to blame the APC National Chairman for the development which is strictly a legislative matter.
