BY COBHAM NSA, ABUJA – The Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC) has assured the Uganda Deposit Protection Fund (DPFU) of value-added inputs on capacity building to implement its home-grown Deposit Insurance System (DIS).

Already, the Corporation is assisting the East African nation to develop DIS capacity aimed at improved performance and implementation of the scheme within its jurisdiction.

This is even as the NDIC announced its readiness to host the African Regional Conference of the International Association of Deposit Insurers (IADI) come September 2018 in Abuja.

A statement by the Head, Communications and Public Affairs, NDIC, Mohammed Kudu Ibrahim in Abuja stated that the Corporation recently hosted a five-member delegation from DPFU that was in the country to understudy NDIC’s activities and service delivery operations.

He said NDIC has emerged as the destination of choice for several sister agencies and Central Banks across the African continent that are keen on understudying the Corporation’s activities and learning from its rich experience in Deposit Insurance.

Ibrahim, who noted that NDIC has been recognized as a leader in Africa on the DIS subject matter, said the Ugandan delegation is the latest addition to the list of teams from several Africa countries that have visited the Corporation for capacity building and other partnership initiatives.

According to the statement, “The NDIC previously hosted delegations from the Reserve Bank of Malawi; Reserve Bank of Lesotho; Deposit Protection Fund Board of Kenya; Deposit Insurance Board of Tanzania; Commission Bancairedel’Afrique Centrale (COBAC) of Cameroun; and Delegates from Banque Centrale Des Etats De L’ Afrique De L’ Ouest (BCEAO) in Senegal, all of whom the NDIC assisted to build the capacity for the implementation of the Deposit Insurance System (DIS) in their various jurisdictions.”

The NDIC’s spokesperson said other teams that have so far visited the Corporation are from the Central Bank of The Gambia; Bank of Tanzania; the Deposit Protection Corporation of Zimbabwe; and the Ghana Deposit Protection Corporation (GDPC).
