Niger Republic Coup Leaders Consolidate, Take Decisive Measures

The military coup leaders in Niger Republic that overthrew former President Mohammed Buzoum are consolidating their hold onto power.

The military leaders are holding former President Bozoum and other political figures in detention in the country.
A pointer to this effect followed the announcement of the appointments of Governors for eight regions in the country.

They include; Agadez – Brigade General Ibro Boulama, Dosso – Brigadier General Iro Oumarou, Diffa – Brigadier General Ibrahim Bagadoma, Niamey – Brigadier General Abdou Assouman Harouna, Tahoua – Major Colonel Oumarou Tawayé, Maradi – Inspector General of Police Issoufou Mamane, Tillabery – Lieutenant Colonel Maïna Boukar and Zinder – Colonel EF Labo Issoufou.

Meanwhile, as ECOWAS Chiefs Of Defence Staff are set to meet in Abuja to discuss possible military intervention in Niger Republic based on the resolution of the ECOWAS Heads of State and Government which met last week Friday in Abuja, the Nigerien Junta is concretizing efforts at forming new alliance with other friendly countries with a view to withstand ECOWAS threat.

Following its consolidation on hold on power, the Nigerien Junta has also reopened the country’s land borders and airspace with Mali, Burkina Faso, Algeria, Libya and Chad.

The Nigerien military leaders also sent a Dornier 228 aircraft to Malians and Burkinabes to discuss ‘alliance’ and the question of alternative partners such as the Wagner Mercenaries.
