The Labour Party (LP), has taken a swipe at President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over what it described as “his frequent foreign trips”, stressing that Nigerians prefer he remained at home to face the challenges confronting the country.
The opposition party stressed the need for the government to establish well-equipped health facilities in Nigeria as against having leaders who embark on “At-Home-Abroad (AHA) nomadic” medical and social tourism.
President Tinubu left Nigeria on Thursday for the United Kingdom and France.
It noted that President Tinubu had so far spent about 160 days traveling and living outside Nigeria since assuming office on May 29, 2023.
A statement by Mr. Tony Akeni, Interim National Publicity Secretary of Labour Party, tasked President Tinubu to put an end to his “nomadic vacations” and provide Nigerians with needed and effective governance.
LP noted that Tinubu’s first 18-month administration resulted in 135 million citizens being thrown into extreme poverty, emphasising that this time around, the President left behind a country plagued by economic hardship and insecurity, with an average of 57 Nigerians dying every day from various forms of violence and hunger.
The Labour Party criticized the APC governance style, which it said prioritized the interests of its leaders over the welfare of Nigerians.
It therefore urged Nigerians to ensure that the syndrome of “AHA Presidents” come to an end in 2027 by voting for a political party and president who would prioritize building global standard health facilities in Nigeria.
The Labour Party emphasized that this was one of the promises and dividends of true democracy, which they stood for and would attain for Nigerians.
