Just days after six persons were killed, another deadly explosion has rocked Jalingo, the Taraba State capital in Northeast Nigeria, with nine persons reportedly injured in the incident

The Friday night explosion reverberated across the state capital with anxiety gripping many residents who hinted that the occurrence was around the Nukkai axis, bordering the Ardo-Kola Local Government Area of the state where the same incident took place about 72 hours ago.

Though details about the development are still sketchy, it was however learnt that no lives were lost in the explosion that occurred when the entire town was in a blackout due to a power outage.

However, unconfirmed reports from the area indicated that several people were injured as the blast took place close to the Ward Head’s house where there is a local bar and its aftermath left cracks on the walls of buildings within the locality.

One resident of Jalingo, who simply identified himself as Ishaku, said many people were still in a state of shock over the loud bang heard around Nukkai around 8:00 pm on Friday.

He stated that no fatalities were recorded, but some residents confirmed rushing nine persons to the hospital for urgent medical treatment.

The spokesman of the Taraba State Police Command, DSP Abdullahi Usman, who confirmed the incident, said 9 people were injured and the Police are still working to find out whether any casualties were involved.

“Yes, there was an explosion around Nukkai awhile ago. I’m on my way to the scene, we learnt about nine people injured in the explosion have been taken to the hospital. I’ll call you when I get there,” DSP Usman volunteered when contacted.
