NLC President, Ajaero Speaks On Arrest And 15 Hours Grilling By DSS

President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Joe Ajaero, has given insight into his arrest, detention and 15 hours verbal grilling in the hands of the personnel of the Department of State Services (DSS).

Ajaero, who featured on Channels Television programme on Tuesday morning, said the DSS later allowed him to go home at about 11pm on Monday, September 9, 2024 after a gruesome interrogation, adding that his travel passport was however not returned to him by the Service.

He said that he was arrested at about 7:00am at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja while trying to board a flight to the United Kingdom for a conference.

The NLC President further said that while he was arrested and detained by the DSS, some police officers later came to the DSS office and also grilled him over the #EndBadGovernance nationwide protests that took place in August.

Ajaero said some of the questions he was asked bothered on allegation on terrorism financing involving a British national, Andrew Wynne.

The arrest of Ajaero received the condemnation of the NLC, its affiliate bodies, the Trade Union Congress (TUC), Amnesty International and some human rights activists that included Mr Femi Falana, SAN, that berated the Federal Government for the arrest thus, demanded his immediate and unconditional release.
