The Federal Government has formally closed its case against the detained leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, at the Federal High Court in Abuja.
One of the legal counsels to Kanu, Mr Aloy Ejimakor, who disclosed this in a post on X handle (formerly Twitter) shortly after court proceedings on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, said that the presiding judge granted the defense team 14 days to file their written address, adding that the prosecution was also given 14 days to respond.
The defence counsel had argued a no-case submission in its legal argument that Kanu has no case to answer.
He said that with development, the matter has been adjourned until July 18, 2025, for further proceedings. Ejimakor said; “Today, the Federal Republic of Nigeria CLOSED its case against Mazi Nnamdi Kanu… Thank you for your support”.
The trial of Nnamdi Kanu has continued to attract local and international attention, with human rights groups and observers closely monitoring the process.
Kanu has remained in custody since his controversial extradition from Kenya to Nigeria since 2021.
