The Governor of Benue state, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, has said that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s visit, presence and support to the state during its challenging time, provides the people with hope and strength.
He specifically noted that the President’s decisive action to neutralize the threats posed by armed herders has reassured the people that their safety and the return of their farm lands were priorities for his administration.
This was as he Governor assured the people of Benue State that he will continue to work together with all critical stakeholders, as his government works towards rebuilding and restoring peace in the State.
Governor Alia, who stated these on Thursday while extending his heartfelt gratitude and those of the people of Benue State to President Tinubu for his visit to the state following the tragic events, especially the pogrom at Yelwata town in Guma LGA of the State, specifically appreciated the President for his assurance to work with the State government in order to fashion out a framework that will bring about lasting peace in the State.
A statement by Sir Tersoo Kula, Chief Press Secretary to the Benue State Governor, said that Alia particularly thanked President Tinubu for directing security agencies to ensure that the criminals are arrested and brought to face the full wrath of the law.
In the words of Governor Alia; “We deeply appreciate your commitment to addressing the security challenges we face, particularly your directive to the Chief of Defence Staff and the Inspector General of Police.
“Your decisive action to neutralize the threats posed by armed herders reassures us that our safety and the return of our farmers to their lands are priorities for your administration,” he said.
Governor Alia also appreciated his counterparts, especially the Progressive Governor’s Forum led by Governor Hope Uzodinma, for standing in solidarity with him and the state, stating that their collective efforts demonstrated a united front against violence, and a shared commitment to the well-being of communities across the country.
Alia said that the people of the State take so much solace in the leadership and compassion shown by President Tinubu, State Governors and other well meaning Nigerians, during this trying moment.
