No DSS Advisory To Buhari On Muslim-Muslim Ticket — Presidency
BY EDMOND ODOK – There is nothing like an advisory from the Department of State Service (DSS) to President Muhammadu Buhari warning against the choice of a Muslim-Muslim ticket by the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 2023 general elections, the presidency said on Friday.
Debunking reports making rounds on social media, the presidency said the purported story by an online news platform is false and urged the public to ignore what it described as “a laughably puerile report by an apparently pirate online newspaper seeking to sow division and chaos” among Nigerians.
Reacting to the said report, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu, stated thus; “We wish to advise well-meaning Nigerians to ignore a laughably puerile report by an apparently pirate online newspaper seeking to sow division and chaos on the choice of Governor Kashim Shettima as the Running Mate of our Party’s Presidential Candidate, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
“This so-called newspaper is like a deadly virus. Stay safe by keeping away from its toxic reports.”
Following the controversy and condemnations trailing APC’s Presidential candidate choice of Senator Shettima, a Muslim, as his running mate, an online report emerged claiming that the DSS, in its advisory to the President, had raised an alarm on the negative security implication of presenting the pair for next year’s general elections.
This is as some individuals and groups have continued to insist that the choice of Muslim-Muslim ticket does not reflect the religious diversity of the country, especially against the backdrop of current insecurity and untoward developments in the polity
