The Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited on Wednesday, January 3, 2024 refuted reports that it plans to increase the price of Premium Motor Spirit (petrol) to N1,200 per litre.

Some media organisations had reported that then NNPC is expected to announce a new fuel pump price increase across the country.

However, the NNPCL debunked such reports which had generated serious reactions from citizens particularly with regards to the high cost of living and the quadruple inflation occasioned by the sudden removal of subsidy by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The NNPCL in a statement by its Group Communications Officer, Mr. Olufemi Soneye, said that contrary to insinuations, the NNPC did not clash with any organisation or body, stressing that there are no plans whatsoever to hike the price of petrol.

In the words of Soneye; “NNPC Ltd emphasises has not clashed with any party. The Punch headline is deemed unfortunate.

“The publication sought confirmation on the alleged subsidy reduction, to which NNPC responded that the subsidy has been entirely removed”.
