No Room For Laxity, Non-Performance In My Administration – Tinubu Warns Ministers, Others
BY EDMOND ODOK – President Bola Ahmed Tinubu says laxity and non-performance will not be tolerated in his administration, warning that government officials and political appointees are free to excuse themselves or get booted out.
Consequently, he maintained that there is no alternative to successful delivery on the expectations of Nigerians whose votes brought him into office as the president.
Speaking at the opening of a three-day retreat with tagged; “Delivering on the Renewed Hope Agenda,” in Abuja on Wednesday, President Tinubu said the retreat is expected to come up with a bond of understanding that would be signed between the participants and himself.
The President told participants at the retreat, organised for ministers, presidential aides, permanent secretaries, and top government officials at the Presidential Villa that; “If you’re are performing, nothing to fear. If you’re not performing, we review and if you cannot perform, you leave us.”
While assuring the officials of a free hand to carry out their assigned responsibilities, President Tinubu urged them to make necessary enquiries that would enhance their job performance at all times for effective service delivery to Nigerians.
Furthermore, the President said it behoves on all his ministers and other government officials to assist him succeed in meeting the expectations of Nigerians
Also acknowledging that he is bound to make mistakes as a human being, the President said when such errors are pointed out to him, he would immediately correct them, adding: “You are here to help me succeed”.
President Tinubu assured all Nigerians irrespective of whether they are affiliated to political parties or not, he remains the President for everyone, adding that the country is one big family with people partitioned into different rooms.
According to him; “I’m here to give direction to this family making sure the relationship is stronger by giving hope to our people.”
He warned civil servants to stop seeing the Ministers as those who will come and go and “you will be there”, noting that such attitude does not make for productive engagement and effective service delivery to the citizens.
For the Ministers and other political appointees, the President cautioned against presenting themselves as opportunistic individuals who are only out to enrich themselves, insisting that they are partners in contributing positively to the nation’s development and growth.
Also saying that he has accepted the assets and liabilities of the previous administration, President Tinubu told the officials that the challenges around them notwithstanding, they must stay focused like someone driving in a tunnel to deliver the goods.
On Direct Foreign Investments (FDI) into the country, President Tinubu assured foreign investors that the government is focused on creating an enabling environment for them will to bring in their capital, invest and repatriate their gains without bottlenecks.
On a general note, the President explained that his administration has spent the last six months “reviewing ourselves”, noting that the importance of good healthcare and quality education cannot be overemphasized, because these serve as the foundation and best weapons to tackle poverty in the country.
