No Vacancy In CBN – Group Warns Emefiele’s Detractors
BY EDMOND ODOK – A non-political group, the Arewa Consultative Youths Movement (ACYM) has warned detractors to stay clear of the sterling career path of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Dr Godwin Emefiele, saying there is no vacancy in the nation’s apex bank.
Cautioning that calls for the resignation or sacking of Emefiele over his membership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and 2023 presidential ambition are unwarranted, the ACYM said those towing such an inglorious path should urgently retrace their missteps.
In a statement titled “Arewa Youths Pass Vote of Confidence on CBN Gov and Buhari …Says no Vacancy for Those Eyeing the Nation’s Treasury and to Decimate Buhari Agenda”, the Movement urged those seeking Emefiele’s removal “so that they can put their cronies in the position to access the nation’s treasury” to have a rethink.
Signed by its President, Kabiru Yusuf, the ACYM’s statement issued on Thursday, said Emefiele and his CBN management team have continued to perform creditably well and should therefore not be stampeded out of office for any reason.
It further said; “We, Arewa youths, have resolved to pass a vote of confidence on President Buhari and Dr Emefiele over the manner they have been handling the nation’s economy.
“We are not unmindful of the efforts of some unscrupulous persons to pile pressure on the President to sack Emefiele for their own selfish reasons.
“Since we know that their plan is not nationalistic but selfish and personal, we are by this medium telling them that there is no vacancy in the CBN. They should learn to live with this basic fact.”
Recently, online reports rumoured earlier this week that the President had sacked Emefiele, a development which the Presidency and the CBN had since renounced as ‘fake news.’
