… Says Judiciary thwarts Party’s Move To Discipline Kashamu
BY AMOS DUNIA, ABUJA – The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), on Wednesday declared that it was not aware that its National Caretaker Committee Chairman, Senator Ahmed Makarfi is nursing a presidential ambition for 2019.
National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Prince Dayo, who stated the position of the Party at a press conference, described the allegation against Makarfi, that he is paving way for the emergence of Uche Secondus as the Party’s National Chairman as baseless.
Adeyeye further said; “As for the issue of whether Senator Makarfi has presidential ambition or not, we are not aware of that. The National Caretaker Committee is not aware and we have not opened the flood gate for people to begin to aspire for the position of President.
“INEC has not even released timetable. I don’t know if they have released any timetable for the presidential election. We in the PDP are concerned now in putting in place a new leadership for the party which we hope will come up or emerge latest by December 9 or 10. That is our preoccupation at the national caretaker committee.”
The PDP spokesman explained that the dicey issue of micro zoning is at the discretion of the zones, stressing that the National Caretaker Committee recognized only what the convention and National Executive Committee (NEC), approved by zoning positions between the North and the South.
Commenting on the peace accord signed by the aspirants to the exalted position of National Chairman of the PDP, Adeyeye said the party has no power to punish any one that disobey the agreement.
According to him; “People sign peace accord, we have no way to enforce it. If they flout it, there is nothing we can do. It is a matter that we will continue to revisit from time to time.”
Meanwhile, the PDP on Wednesday said judicial encumbrances have prevent it from taking disciplinary action against Senator Buruji Kashamu, saying that specifically, the judiciary thwarted the move by the party disciplinary committee to punish the Ogun state born politician.
Adeyeye said; “The actions of Kashamu led to the loss of Edo and Ondo State. The party will take a decision at the appropriate time on Senator Kashamu. It may take long but justice will be done.
“We need to remind PDP members and Nigerians that it was Senator Kashamu and those he was bankrolling that conducted parallel congresses in Edo and Ondo States. They did not stop there but took us up to Supreme Court and in the end openly endorsed and campaigned for our opponents. Their actions made us to lose the elections.”
