NSE Confers Fellowship On Obadiah Nkom, Others
BY GLORIA USMAN, ABUJA – The Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), has conferred on Mr Obadiah Nkom and 46 other engineers with the title of Fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, being the highest professional honour in the society.
President of the NSE, Engr. Adekunle Mokuolu, who carried out the conferment ceremony at the 12th Fellowship Conferment Lecture and ceremony in Abuja, said engineers have consistently displayed the resilient spirit of professionalism and hard work through which they brought honour to the society.
He further said; “They have brought honour and enormous contributions to the growth of the noble profession of engineering in Nigeria. I charge you all to continue to assert yourselves as worthy ambassadors of NSE as you go there hanging your prestigious decoration as a Fellow of the great and honourable Nigerian Society of Engineers.”
Speaking on the theme; “Nigerian Content Development: The Journey so far,” Mokuolu said Nigeria is on track to achieving full compliance in the near future.
In his words; “NSE has consistently remained at the forefront of advocacy for upholding the concept of Nigerian Content Development in all sectors. During a recent visit to him by the NSE, President Muhammadu Buhari acknowledged the contributions of Nigerian engineers to all sectors especially infrastructure development. With the assurances and affirmative actions of President Muhammadu Buhari and other top officers of government, I believe Nigeria is truly on track.”
Mokuolu therefore urged the leadership of NSE branches across the country to galvanise members to fashion out strategies for partnership with both local and state governments in their areas of operations.
Chairman, Board of Fellow/College of Fellows, Mr Felix Atume while congratulating the conferees, said that each of them had shown resilience and consistency that brought them to the height they had attained and charged them to adhere strictly to the ethics of the profession and be professional in all their areas of expertise.
In his remarks, one of the conferees, Director General of the Nigeria Mining Cadastre Office (MCO), who is also the President, Nigerian Mining and Geosciences Society, Mr Obadiah Nkom, said he was fulfilled and thankful to God for the conferment, adding that the honour has given him impetus to achieving more especially in combining engineering and geosciences in bringing about solutions to critical issues of the environment.
Another of the conferees, Mr Gabriel Bankole commended the society for finding him worthy of the honour and encouraged upcoming engineers to have focus and keep doing the right thing.
He said; “They should not relent but focus and their mind should not be on money first, with hard work they will get noticed and money will eventually follow.”
