Dunia, who is a former Chairman of Council, however, urged Ogbeche to focus on sustaining and improving the development momentum and achievements that not only stood out but endeared his first tenure to journalists serving in the nation’s capital.

In a congratulatory message that he personally signed, the veteran journalist, popularly called Chairman emeritus by colleagues, assured the re-elected NUJ leader and other elected officials of support in ensuring greater harmony, peace, and development of the Union as well as improved welfare for its teeming members across the FCT.

While wishing the returning Council Chairman a successful new term in office, Dunia praised the candidates and their supporters for handling the electoral campaigns with decorum and demonstrating friendship despite all odds which ensured the peaceful conduct of the December 4, 2021 polls in the Council.

Comrade Dunia also lauded the Credential Committee and journalists in the FCT for conducting and participating in a smooth and hitch-free poll, noting that the processes leading to the election; its peaceful conduct, and the eventual outcome showed that NUJ and its members can add value to the nation’s electoral system with positive results.

“This event is very encouraging and as journalists, we should be proud of what took place, even as we work towards correcting and improving on identified lapses in the process going forward,’’ he said.

The former NUJ National officer specifically expressed happiness at the conduct of candidates following the election results announcement, describing it as “heart-warming and a firm commitment to ballot democracy within the Union.”
