Again, NUJ Writes Leadership Newspapers Over Unpaid Salaries

Share

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has again warned the management of Leadership newspapers to stop treating with levity the issue of non-payment of workers’ salaries in its organisation.

In a letter signed by its National Secretary, Shuaibu Usman Leman, the NUJ expressed regrets that despite goodwill interventions by the Union and some stakeholders, the company has continued to demonstrate crass indifference to the plight of journalists in its employ whose salaries are in arrears of over eight months.

The NUJ therefore warned of likely consequences should the organization insist on acting inappropriately and against the spirit of equity and employer/employees’ relationship on this vex issue.

RE: NON PAYMENT OF SALARIES

We refer to our letter of demand dated August 17, 2017, ref: NUJ/LN/1/8/17 addressed to the Group Managing Director, Leadership Newspapers, in which we requested for the immediate payment of Salary arrears of NUJ members that stood in excess of eight (8) months.

Regrettably, the GMD chose to ignore this demand and neither did he even bother to reply the Union. It is therefore obvious as suspected all this while that payment of staff salaries has never been an issue of priority to your organization.

Sir, you will do well to direct the immediate payment of all the arrears of emoluments as per our letter of demand. Also take note that your organization may not have the benefit of another notification on this issue.

Shuaibu Usman Leman
Walin Shadalafiya
National Secretary

CC: Chairman, NUJ FCT

Above is for your appropriate action as discussed previously, please
