Nwosu Dares Action Alliance, Pulls S-East For Buhari
BY EMEZIE ONYEKACHI, OWERRI – South-East members of the Action Alliance (AA) met on Thursday and threw their weight behind Governor Rochas Okorocha’s son-in-law, Ugwumba Uche Nwosu, in pursuit of the 2019 re-election agenda of President Muhammadu Buhari.
The meeting reportedly held at Rockview Hotel in Owerri, with the zonal chairman of the party, Matthew Ozundi, alongside some stakeholders of the party.
Rising from the meeting, the party stalwarts said there was no going back as they have made up their minds to support Nwosu’s alliance with the President as the All Progressives Congress (APC) flag-bearer in the February 16, 2019 presidential polls.
The development is a sharp departure from the position of AA’s National Chairman, Kenneth Udeze, who had warned against any member of the party disobeying the National Working Committee (NWC)’s on the presidential candidate to support at the polls.
Udeze had directed all party members to support the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)’s Presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar in the elections,
He said all the party members across the country are expected to embrace the agenda of Atiku and his running mate, a former governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi.
The Party National Chairman threatened that the Party’s NWC would not hesitate to sanction any erring member that flouts the order.
But the Imo State AA’s Governorship, Uche Nwosu maintained that such directive does not hold water with his declaration of support for President Buhari’s re-election bid.
Nwosu said no threat would stop him and his supporters from supporting Buhari, adding that he was not only in “a perfect alliance with Buhari, but that his support was above religious and party affiliations.”
Similarly, the Party’s South East zonal Chairman, Matthew Ozundi, confirmed the zone’s declared support for Nwosu, saying: “Our position in Imo State and South East to support President Buhari stands. Nothing can change our decision. No amount of threat or blackmail can change our decision.”
