Obasanjo’s Failure Diatribe Not New – Presidency
BY VICTOR BUORO, ABUJA – The Presidency says All Progressives Congress (APC)-led government will not join issues with former President Olusegun Obasanjo because his failure label on the current administration is nothing new.
It stated that the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari fully endorsed submissions made by the Minister of Information and Culture, Mr Lai Mohammed to the former president’s comments and assessment in his letter of January 23, 2018.
Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the President, Mr Femi Adesina said Obasanjo’s assessment of the administration as a failure while speaking to some youth groups on Monday, was not new to the polity.
“Already, the statement issued few months ago by the Minister of Information and Culture, Mr Lai Mohammed, in response to the earlier criticism made against the government by Obasanjo had adequately addressed the issues raised”, Adesina told Channels Television in a telephone interview.
He said the APC-led Federal Government would not stop highlighting the failures of past administration in order to guide against such mistakes in future.
The Presidential aide maintained that the Buhari administration has successfully tackled mismanagement of the nation’s economy, as Nigeria now has more savings in its foreign reserve than ever before.
Former President Obasanjo had while addressing youth groups that visited him at his country home Abeokuta, described the Buhari’s administration as a failure.
He also said the Buhari administration should stop complaining about the challenges it met on the ground and work for the overall good of Nigerians and the county.
According to him, “What we have now is failure. Never you reinforce failure; let failure be failure… Those of you who are in business, your businesses could have been better today if we have a competent, effective and performing government.”
“If you do not see what you should see; if you do not do what you should do; then you will be a victim of what you don’t like”, Obasanjo admonished the youths.
