Before his new appointment, Osuntokun was the Zonal Coordinator (South) of the Labour Party Campaign Council. He was also Director of the Presidential campaign of the Peoples Democratic Party in 2011.

Okupe resigned as the Director General of the campaign council for the Labour Party’s presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, following his conviction by a Federal High Court in Abuja for money laundering.

Okupe, a known ally of Obi in their days in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) before the duo joined the LP this year, however paid the option of N13m fine and escaped going to jail.

Following his conviction by the Court, Okupe, resigned as the Director General of the Obi/Dati Campaigns Council.
