The Labour Party (LP) Presidential Candidate in the 2023 elections, Peter Obi, has raised an alarm that there are threats to his life and family following the New Year message concerning governance under the watch of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

According to Obi, it is unfortunate that the state of nation address should become a source of attack and threat directed at him and his family instead of an urgent call to check Nigeria’s continuous drift toward “undemocratic practices”.

In a series of tweets on his X handle on Monday, the former Anambra State governor alleged that all sorts of messages, including threats to his life and that of those around him, have been coming his way from different sources.

He particularly made reference to comments by the All Progressives Congress (APC) Spokesperson, Felix Morka, accusing him of crossing the line with his incessant criticisms of the ruling party and Tinubu’s government.

The Labour Party flag bearer, who re-shared the video of his New Year message, expressed surprised at Morka’s allegations, wondering the meaning being attached to the so-called crossing the line, even as he urged Nigerians to point out the boundary which he overstepped in the message delivery.

Obi said; “Have I really crossed the line? I ask the question because my New Year message has now led to threats against my life, my family, and those around me. While I have received all sorts of messages, one Mr. Felix Morka has gone further to accuse me of ‘crossing the line’ and has warned that I will face the consequences.

“I find it necessary to share this message again and urge everyone who has not seen it to watch: youtube.com/watch?v=waGknJ…
If I have truly crossed the line, I invite anyone to point it out, as I remain committed to upholding decorum”.

However, the former Anambra Governor said nothing would stop his resolve to remain vocal in speaking truthfully, especially as the nation continued to drift toward “undemocratic practices.”

“We are increasingly transforming into an authoritarian and repressive regime, where freedom of expression is being systematically suppressed”, Obi warned

Forefront News recalls the LP candidate had, in his New Year message, expressed concerns that Nigeria’s economic situation continue to worsen despite improvement claims by the Federal Government.

Noting that the country remains one of the poverty capitals in the world, Obi, among other issues raised, also urged the President to stop the numerous overseas trips that continued to drain the nation’s scarce resources as well as focus on conducting his medical examinations in Nigeria.

He stated thus; “Mr President, out of the approximately 580 days you have been in office, it is reported that you have spent over 30%, or around 180 days, on more than 30 publicly recorded overseas trips”.

But reacting to Obi’s presentation during an interview on Arise Television, Felix Morka, the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), National Publicity Secretary, claimed that Obi was crossing the line with his incessant criticisms of the ruling party and Tinubu’s government.

In his words, “Peter Obi is really crossing the line. The campaigns are over, he needs to relax and allow his lawyers to handle his case at the tribunal. Accusing the APC of attacking his personal life is ridiculous.

“Obi has been way too sanctimonious for someone who volunteered to venture into politics and run for the presidency”.
