Old Trafford Hosts Manchester Derby
- As United, City collide in Sunday’s blockbuster
The title race may have slipped away from Champions, Manchester City, but few soccer pundits would deny that the English side ranks among the greatest teams in the world today.
So Sunday’s Manchester derby headlines another engrossing and action-packed football fiesta between a resurgent Manchester United and their Manchester City rivals who added another silverware to their prized collections last weekend beating Aston Villa 2-1 in the Carabao Cup final.
Certainly, there will be no shortage of drama at the Theatre of Dreams, with hosts, United flaunting local bragging rights against their noisy neighbours, City.
At present, the Red Devils are in the midst of a battle for Champions League qualification, having dropped two points away at Everton last weekend, and will therefore do everything possible to avoid another slip-upin this match-up.
However, even without Kevin De Bruyne, who’s a doubt with injury, and centre-back Aymeric Laporte, the Citizens may still have too much going forward for United, whose vulnerabilities were exposed at times by the Toffees.
Encouragingly for United, they’ve already beaten City twice this term, and are aiming for a first league double over their rivals since year 2010.
The Ole Gunnar Solskjaer men have kept clean sheets in three of their last four home games, but City have also looked strong at Old Trafford under Pep Guardiola, who is aiming to become the first Premier League manager to win four matches away at United’s hallowed ground.
Also, another Sunday paring in the Premiership League action on Sunday, is Chelsea versus Everton clash with the Blues looking to tighten their grip on a Champions League qualifying berth for the 2020/21 season. – With Goal.com reports
