BY AMEH IDUJAGI, JALINGO –The Chairman of the Judicial Commission of Enquiry into the Tiv-Jukun crisis in Taraba State, Justice Kummai Aka’as (retd ) has said  that over N14 billion had so far been lost as a result of the conflict in the southern part of Taraba State.

Justice Aka’as, who made the disclosure while submitting the report of the seven-man Commission of Inquiry to Governor Darius Ishaku on Tuesday in Jalingo, said the damage done by the crisis was worth more than N14billion.

He emphasized the need for the quick demarcation of the boundary between Taraba and Benue states as a step towards achieving peace between the Tiv and their neighbours in Taraba State.

Aka’as said the report was entirely based on the findings of members adding that there was no attempt by the Governor or any other interests to influence the job of the commission.

He appealed to all stakeholders to do whatever was necessary to stop the crisis and ensure lasting peace in the Southern Taraba.

Speaking after receiving the report, Governor Ishaku thanked members of the commission for finishing their assignment in record time, saying that the crisis between the Tiv and their Neighbours in Taraba has been on since 1991and promised that his administration would do everything within its powers to resolve it.

Ishaku also joined in the call for the demarcation of the boundary between Taraba and Benue, promising his administration will act decisively on the report of Commission.

He said; “I want assure members of the commission that you would discover at the end that we did not bring you here to waste your time”.

The Governor emphasised the need for all persons resident in the state to be law abiding and to resist the temptation to be teleguided by outsiders to cause crisis.
