The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Osun State chapter on Wednesday, February 19, 2025, accused the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, of plotting to assassinate Governor Senator Ademola Adeleke.
Chairman of the Party, Chief Sunday Bisi, told journalists at a press briefing at the party’s Secretariat in Osogbo, that IGP Egbetokun intentionally and deliberately deployed Special Forces to escort “miscreants” into local government councils across the state.

The PDP chairman noted that the security reinforcements has succeeded in creating dangerous opportunities for troublemakers to carry out their malicious acts, particularly against the backdrop of the fact that the state recently lost about 10 persons to violent confrontations under 48 hours.
Bisi said that the whole world must warn and prevail on IGP Egbetokun to desist from being an enabler of orchestrated attempts on the life of Governor Adeleke.
This was as the PDP chairman described the act as a “blatant coup”, stressing that it was part of the plot to assassinate Adeleke.
In the words of Bisi; This plan, we want to emphasise, has been on the cards of the APC in Osun State since the good people of Osun State voted them out of office in 2022.
“The desperation to get rid of Mr Governor and take over the State through whatever means possible, has been rife and clear enough since APC was shut out of government in Osun.
“These comments are made here today for record purposes, and the world must hold the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun accountable in the event of any ugly eventualities in Osun.
“One wonders how and why the IGP sidetracked the Governor of Osun State before taking a stand on the copies of the judgement at his disposal on the disputes over local government administration in the state.
“The stark disobedience to the laid down protocol and rules by IGP Egbetokun, especially as it concerned security situation in the state, was not only suspicious but apparently dangerous,” the PDP boss said.
Bisi stressed that Osun State is not one to be intimidated by anyone, asking whether the current situation in the state contributed to the extension of Egbetokun’s expired tenure.
The PDP Chairman commended the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSSIEC) for adhering to the law in its preparations for the February 22, local government elections and encouraged citizens to come out and exercise their right to vote on Saturday.
