PDP Adopts New Zoning Plan For National Offices Of The Party

BY AMOS DUNIA, ABUJA – The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has released its zoning arrangements for the various party offices at the national level.

This followed the submission of the report presented by the chairman of the zoning committee and Governor of Ebonyi State, Chief Dave Umahi that zoned the position of National Chairman to the South comprising of the South-west, South-east and the South-south geo-political zones of the country.

The zoning committee also zoned the position of National Secretary to the North made up of the North-central, North-east and North-west.

Based on the new zoning arrangement, the PDP will now have two Deputy National Chairman representing the North and South.

Other positions zoned to the South include the office of the National Treasurer, National Legal Adviser, National Youth Leader, National Organising Secretary, Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Deputy National Woman Leader, Deputy National Auditor and Deputy National Financial Secretary.

Similarly, the North made up three geo-political zones will be expected to share the positions of National Secretary, National Financial Secretary, National Publicity Secretary, National Auditor, National Woman Leader, Deputy National Treasurer, Deputy National Organising Secretary, Deputy National Youth Leader, Deputy National Legal Adviser and Deputy National Secretary.

The new arrangement will see each of the six geo-political zones present one National Vice Chairman each, who will be included in the party’s National Working Committee (NWC).

The committee recommended that all positions should be open for contest by aspirants from all the states that fall under the region to which the offices are zoned.

In his remarks while presenting the report to the Senator Ahmed Makarfi-led National Caretaker Committee of the PDP, Governor Umahi said his committee took into consideration earlier zoning arrangements of the party since its inception and also examined previous happenings in the party in respect of restrictions to equal participation of members.
Umahi further said that in arriving at the new zoning arrangement, the committee opted for a paradigm shift from “the unsatisfactory practices” within the party operations in the past.
