PDP Crisis: I No Longer Have Worries, I’ve Moved On – Atiku Says

The presidential candidate of People Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, has said that he does not have any worries again over that the leadership crisis being led by Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State in the party.

The former Vice President pointedly said that he and members of the Party have tried everything possible to reach an amicable understanding and genuine resolution of the crisis thus resolved to move on and have so moved on.

The PDP Presidential flag bearer who stated these while speaking with VOA Hausa service, noted that leadership change at this point in time is difficult to achieve in the party as it would affect other positions in the Central Working Committee which would further create more destabilization.

In the words of Atiku; “We are yet to resolve the matter. But we have moved on, I don’t have any worries about that anymore.

“And at this junction, it’s improper to talk about leadership change in the party while elections are fast approaching,” he said.

Atiku particularly said that he has moved on from the issues threatening his party ahead of 2023 elections, stressing that it would be counterproductive and improper particularly at this material time to think and talk about leadership change in the party while elections are fast approaching

Five governors on the platform of the PDP led by Governor Nyesom Wike are insisting on the resignation of the National Chairman of the Party, DR. Iyorchia Ayu for peace to reign in the party.

The governors namely Wike of Rivers State, Samuel Ortom of Benue, Seyi Makinde of Oyo, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu have refused to participate or attend the campaign rally of Atiku.

One of the governors, Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has even moved a notch further by declaring support through his deputy for the presidential candidate of the APC, Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The former Vice President stressed his determination and commitment to tackling the security challenges bewildering the country, adding that his administration if voted into office would convoke a constitutional Conference to enable States and Local Governments run their security affairs.

According to Atiku; “This would require a rejigging of constitution. Before we embark on this, we intend to employ more boots on ground, especially in the area of policing and civil defence, all of which we will equip properly.

“Our administration would work closely with the judiciary to ensure speedy trial of offenders. We would support the imposition of death penalty for terrorism-related offences,” he said.
