PDP Expels Philip Shaibu, Dan Orbih, Ihama Over ‘Anti-Party Activities
The Edo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), on Wednesday, June 19, 2024 wielded the sledge hammer against some of its members found to be notoriously involved in anti-party activities.
Accordingly, the Party announced the expulsion of the impeached deputy governor of the state, Mr Philip Shaibu and the National Vice Chairman, South-south, Mr Dan Orbih from the party.
Also expelled from the Party is a former member of the House of Representatives, Hon Omorgie Ihama from Oredo federal constituency.
A statement by the State Working Committee (SWC) of the Party, signed by its spokesperson, Mr Ogie Vasco, specifically said that Philip Shaibu, Dan Orbih, and Ihama were expelled over alleged anti-party activities.
Vasco explained that the SWC took the decision after an extensive deliberation on the issue, saying that the expulsion of the trio is with immediate effect.
Mr Philip Shaibu was in April 2024 impeached as the deputy governor of Edo State by the State House of Assembly following the adoption of the report of a seven-member investigative panel.
The panel which was set up by Justice Daniel Okungbowa, Chief Judge of Edo State, was chaired by S. A. Omonuwa, a retired justice.
Shaibu was accused of “misconduct, perjury and disclosure of government secrets”.
However, the expelled National Vice Chairman of the PDP, South-south zone, Mr Orbih told journalists that his suspension would not stand as it did not follow due process.
In the words of Orbih; “When a group of persons sits down to make pronouncements that are unconstitutional, it only shows that they are ignorant of the constitution of the party”.
