PDP: Gov. Wike Is Likely To Be Atiku’s Running Mate
Barring any unforeseen circumstance, Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State is to emerge as the running mate to the Peoples Democratic Party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.
This followed the outcome of the majority of votes he scored from the selection of a committee constituted by the PDP to deal with the issue of a vice presidential candidate.
The National chairman of the PDP, Dr. Iyorchia Ayu had constituted a 16 member committee to screen three southern governors and recommend one for the position.
Wike, it was gathered polled a total of 13votes to beat Governor Okowa of Delta State that recorded three votes thus, putting to an end to days of horse-trading, anxiety, rumour and suspense that characterised the selection process.
With the recommendation of Wike as the running mate to Atiku Abubakar in the 2023 General Election, it is expected that the formal announcement and transmission of the joint presidential ticket to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) will likely take place on Wednesday.
Wike was runner up at the PDP special convention about two weeks ago which took place at the Velodrum of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja, during which Atiku emerged as the party’s flagbearer.
