PDP Imbalanced Positions: Party Already Addressing The Issues – BoT Chairman Says
The Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Walid Jibrin, has said that that the party has set in motion mechanism for addressing and resolving the imbalanced positions within its body ahead of the 2023 General Elections.
This was as Senator Jibrin said that the PDP is equally conscious of the lopsided positions that makes it looks unfair particularly having a presidential candidate and a National Chairman of the party from the same region of the country.
He however explained that it would only be appropriate and proper ask the party’s National Chairman, Senator Iyorcha Ayu to step aside after the presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar has been declared President of Nigeria in 2023.
The PDP’s presidential candidate, the National Chairman, the Chairman of the Board of Trustees Chairman, Chairman of PDP Governors’ Forum are presently occupied by members from the Northern part of the country.
Speaking on Channels Television political programme “Sunday Politics”, Senator Jibin agreed that it will not be fair for the presidential candidate and the Party National Chairman to both come from the North.
Jibrin however said; “But, look at what is there, I have a tenure of five years and I have spent four and a half years already. Only six months remaining for me but, I know I can go at any time. Definitely, I can sacrifice my position.
“If an election has been held and Atiku has been declared as president in 2023, why would he (Ayu) not leave? Whether he likes it or not, he must leave. For me, I’m too eager to leave.
“What I am saying is that we should wait until the committee set up to reconcile Wike and Atiku finish their work, then we will now go ahead to address the other complaints.
“By next week, we will get the report. And when we find out that somebody is wrong in what has happened we will come up openly to tell the party that it is wrong. Whatever we can do, we will do it in the interest of the party to make the party remain as PDP.
“Asking him (Ayu) to resign now will not answer the question,” Jibrin stressed.
He said that the PDP National Caucus, BoT and the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Party are all waiting for the recommendation of the committee set up to look into the matter before scheduling their own meeting to take decisions.
