2023: History Beckons On Nigerians To Salvage The Nation – Atiku Says At NBA Conference
The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 General Elections, Atiku Abubakar, has said that history beckons on all Nigerians to collectively work as a people to salvage the nation, hence an opportunity to do so has come up again.
This is as he advocated the formation of government of national unity as a necessity for tackling the myriads of problems confronting the nation.
Atiku, who stated these while speaking in plenary on the topic “Bold Transitions on the 21st Century Nigeria”, at the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA) 62nd Annual General Meeting in Lagos, anchored by Olisa Agbakoba SAN, stressed that the present deplorable condition the country finds herself calls for an experienced hand to take over and rescue the nation from total collapse.
He particularly decried the present poor state of the country and the negative indices associated with Nigeria, ranging from – disunity, insecurity, high unemployment, abject poverty etc, stating that what is paramount now is how to tackle these anomalies.
Atiku declared that he has the required vast experience in governance, having been in the democratic struggle in the country for a long time.
The Waziri Adamawa equally highlighted five key interrelated areas of attention namely: unity, security, economy, devolution of power and education, assuring that national unity will again be achieved, by giving every part of the country a high sense of belonging.
He said that id elected as president, he will be forming a government of national unity adding that restructuring the country by devolving more powers to the regions and local governments will reduce pressure at the centre.
Atiku expressed gratitude to the organizers of the meeting for inviting him.
The NBA Annual General Meeting which had in attendance the who-is-who, in the Nigerian legal profession was also attended by the presidential candidates of the major political parties except the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who was visibly absent.
