Ennobled by the recent Appeal Court judgment which affirms Senator Ali Modu Sheriff as the national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, a rag-tag group has started putting a spanner into the state of affairs in the Party in Plateau State as a group has made rival claims to the leadership of the PDP in the state.
Gyang Badung, who identified himself as the chairman of the PDP in Plateau State known to the Ali Modu Sheriff national leadership, said the state headquarters of the party remains the secretariat located along Yakubu Gowon Way, opposite the NTA, in Jos, and that its executives and state working committee, SWC, are intact and in operation.
He denied during the exclusive chat that former minister of youth and sports, Damishi Sango is the State chairman of the PDP in the aftermath of the state congresses of the party conducted last year, explaining that “Sango is ea elder who should know that his claims are false and baseless”, maintaining that Sango will soon locate himself appropriately in the party as the Ali Modu Sheriff leadership is working to reposition the party.
Badung denied a charge that he is being sponsored by Governor Lalong and the state APC to destabilise the inner workings of the PDP ahead of 2019, arguing that it will be senseless of him to destabilise and destroy the same party over which he presides as chairman. At the end of the day, he said, “I will be chairman of what if I destroy the Party. I don’t have anything to do with Lalong or the APC”.
According to Badung, “very soon, we are going to unfold our plans and programmes to close ranks, reconcile interests, and position the party to take over power at all levels”.
Presently, he added, “the national chairman, Ali Modu Sheriff, is already on a tour of the different geopolitical zones, and when it is the turn of the North Central zone, he may come to Jos. Then a lot of things will get clearer”.
Insider authorities however dismiss Badung as “a joker on a clowning mission to humour an innocent political gallery and justify the expenses of his pay masters”.
