PDP Seeks Divine Intervention To Restore Ihedioha’s Mandate
- Goes spiritual, declares 7-day Prayers, Fasting
BY ONYEKACHUKWU IBEZIM, OWERRI – Battling hard to overcome the electoral misfortunes that have befallen it in recent times, the Imo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Saturday declared a one week fasting and prayers seeking God’s divine intervention in its affairs and that of the South East State.
Primarily, the opposition party is asking God for the reversal of its bad fortunes and restoration of its governorship candidate, Emeka Ihedioha’s mandate that was truncated by the Supreme Court judgment of Tuesday, January 14, 2020.
Besides losing Douglas House in Owerri to Sen Hope Uzodinma of the All Progressives Congress (APC), the PDP also saw its majority status in the Imo State House of Assembly fizzling out following the defection of its lawmakers to the ruling APC.
A statement by the party’s State Secretary, Nze Ray Emeana, on Saturday, said the spiritual exercise would commence on Sunday, February 9, 2020.
Consequently, the statement directed all party members in the state to dress in black during the spiritual exercise.
It further stated that; “during this period, all ward excos should request for mass in their local churches and assemble at LGA (Local Government Area) party Secretariat daily at noon for prayers and breaking of fast.
“Prayer point is asking God to intervene and restore the victory of Emeka Ihedioha as the duly elected governor of Imo State.”
“We enjoin the Imo people to remain peaceful and prayerful as we await judgment on the review filed by the winner of the governorship election, Hon. Emeka Ihedioha at the Supreme Court”, the statement said.
