PDP: Why 14 LGAs Leaders Endorsed Benue Speaker, Uba As Consensus Guber Candidate
After a painstaking process that involved various stakeholders, leaders of 14 Local Government Areas in Benue State have unanimously endorsed the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Hon Titus Uba as their governorship consensus candidate on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the 2023 governorship election in the state
The choice of Hon. Uba is part of the determination of the PDP in the state to retain power by winning the 2023 general elections in Benue State.
In this wise, the 32 gubernatorial aspirants from the 14 Tiv speaking Local Government Areas endorsed Hon. Uba after he was selected by the Kunav leaders of Vandeikya Local Government Area and accepted by both the Sankera, Jemgbagh and MINDA political elders.
The gubernatorial aspirants took the unanimous decision following series of stakeholders meetings involving mediations by Governor Samuel Ortom and other leaders of the party in the state.
At the meeting of stakeholders from the 14 Tiv speaking Local Government Areas that took place on Sunday, April 17, 2022 at the New Banquet Hall of the Benue Peoples House, the aspirants unanimously presented Hon. Uba to the Governor as their consensus choice.
Chairman of the PDP Governorship Aspirants Forum, Mr. Chille Igbawua Esq. said though the process was tedious, they accepted the choice of Hon. Uba as presented by the people of Kunav.
In his remarks, Governor Ortom charged the consensus candidate to work with the other aspirants and visit them individually in order to convince them to work for him and also share their manifestos with him.
Also in their separate remarks, Senators representing Benue North East and North West, Gabriel Suswam and Orker Jev respectively, commended the process as mid-wifed by Governor Ortom, even as they also commended the aspirants for their resilience and cooperation.
Receiving the consensus candidate on behalf of the party, the state Deputy Chairman of the PDP, Hon Isaac Mfo thanked Governor Ortom for consulting widely to arrive at the consensus by the Tiv speaking areas, stressing that the aspirants also exhibited high level of patience while the process lasted.
Following the development, Hon Uba is now expected to contend with the Deputy Governor, Mr. Benson Abounu, who also emerged as the consensus candidate for the nine Local Government Areas in Benue South for the gubernatorial ticket at the party Congress.
