Peter Obi, Baba-Ahmed Visit Obasanjo In Abeokuta
As part of their nationwide consultations with stakeholders in the nation’s political space, Labour Party (LP) Presidential and Vice Presidential candidates in the 2023 election, Peter Obi and Datti Baba-Ahmed on Sunday stormed Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital to confer with former President Olusegun Obasanjo.
Chief Obasanjo received the Labour Party’s flag bearers at his Abeokuta residence with the Senior Pastor of Trinity House, Ituah Ighodalo, a social justice activist, also present.
The LP’s Vice Presidential candidate also took to his Twitter handle, sharing pictures from the meeting with the message; “Earlier today, myself and H. E. #PeterObi in the company of other #NgLabour chieftains consulted with the former President, Olusegun Obasanjo.”
Before Sunday, pictures of Peter Obi’s visit to the former Military President, General Ibrahim Babangida, on obvious consultation and goodwill mission had surfaced on social media with many maintaining that the Labour Party’s standard bearer is not leaving anything to chance ahead of the 2023 polls.
Also, an ally of the LP candidate and a former United Nations official, Oseloka Obaze shared photos of the Abeokuta visit on social media. Obaze was the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) flagbearer for the 2017 governorship election in Anambra State.
Labour Party insiders hinted that the Abeokuta visit was to enable Peter Obi formally present Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed to the former Nigerian leader as his running mate.
The 46-year-old former lawmaker, who served as a member of the House of Representatives from 2003 to 2007, and represented Kaduna North Senatorial district from 2011 to 2015, is the founder of Baze University in Abuja.
