Details have emerged why the former Governor of Anambra State, Mr. Peter Gregory Obi, resigned his membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Obi, who was one of the presidential aspirants on the platform of the PDP, however said that his commitment to rescuing Nigeria remains firm, even if the route differs.
The letter conveying his resignation from the PDP reads; “Resignation form People Democratic Party (PDP) and withdrawal from the Presidential contest”, dated Tuesday, May 24th 2022 and addressed to the National Chairman of the party, said his resignation took effect from Friday May 20, 2022.

However, checks by Forefront News indicate that Mr. Obi will announce his new party soon just as it was gathered that he is most likely going to join the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP) or the Labour Party of Nigeria.
A source close to Obi told Forefront News on condition of anonymity said that he is however committed to the Presidential race but not under the PDP, stressing that recent developments within the PDP made it practically impossible to continue participating and making constructive contributions.
It was also gathered that Obi’s reason for leaving the PDP was as a result of the fact that Governor Nyesome Wike of Rivers State, has practically bought over virtually all the PDP delegates in the South-east geopolitical zone just as former Vice President Abubakar Atiku and former Senate President, Bukola Saraki equally bought over all the delegates of the Party in the North.
Further checks further indicate that Obi also met a brick wall with delegates from the South-south geo-political zone that were non-committal as the Governors in the zone are positioning themselves to clinch the vice Presidential slot from any Northern candidate that may emerge as the PDP Presidential flag bearer.
