Peter Obi’s Shocker For Tinubu, Labour Party Sweeps Lagos Polls
BY SEGUN ADEBAYO – The Labour Party (LP) Presidential candidate, Peter Obi has defeated his All Progressives Congress (APC) counterpart, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu to emerge winner of the presidential poll conducted in Lagos on Saturday, February 25, 2023.
In flooring the APC Standard bearer and the ruling APC in their perceived stronghold, the former Anambra State Governor polled a total of 582,664 votes in nine local government areas of the state while Tinubu, who scored 541,850, had eleven local government areas to his bag.
According to the results declared by the Lagos State Returning Officer, the LP candidate defeated the former Lagos state governor with the majority of the votes cast in the state.
Based on the collated results at the INEC Lagos State collation centre in Yaba, Obi won the higher votes in nine local government areas of the state listed as Ajeromi-Ifelodun, Amuwo-Odofin, Eti-Osa, Ikeja, Kosofe, Oshodi-Isolo, Somolu, Ojo and Alimosho
On his part, Tinubu triumphed in Agege, Apapa, Badagry, Epe, Ibeju-Lekki, Ifako-Ijaiye, Ikorodu, Lagos Island, Lagos Mainland, and Surulere LGAs.
The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar scored a total of 75,750 votes while the presidential candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) Rabiu Kwankwaso, had a total of 8,842 votes.
Meanwhile, despite their impressive showing at the polls, the Labour Party leadership has protested that the INEC officials have tampered with the results because the margin of victory as reported by the Party’s field agents presents a much higher figure than the electoral umpire’s collated numbers.
