The Makinde/Daura Presidential Campaign Organisation (MDPCO), On Monday, October 12, 2026, said that the media report of increase in the pump price of petrol from N1,370 per liter to N1,410 at filling stations in Abuja and other parts of the country has reinforced its earlier warning that the Tinubu administration’s ₦60 per litre discount was an exercise in deceptive tokenism rather than a credible response to the country’s deepening economic crisis.

The MDPCO stated that it had earlier cautioned that the panicky ₦60 discount was a mere political stunt designed to deflect mounting public anger and growing rejection of the Tinubu administration rather than a solution to the underlying causes of the hardship confronting Nigerians.

A statement by Richard Ihediwa, Director Strategic Communications of the MDPCO noted that the latest development further strengthened the position of the Campaign organization that no amount of propaganda can conceal the consequences of policies, whose promised benefits are not reflected in the daily lives of ordinary Nigerians.

The statement further said that the Machiavellian attempt by the President Tinubu-led APC administration to cultivate the image of a benevolent government through a so-called fuel discount has backfired spectacularly.

It further stated; “We are vindicated in our position that political narrative has its limits. The latest price surge has intensified concerns about the integrity of the pronouncements of the Tinubu administration.

“Indeed, Nigerians cannot continue to be confronted with the hollow slogan of “bold economic reforms,” which has become a euphemism for transferring the crushing burden of economic hardship onto citizens already struggling to survive.

“Our nation cannot afford to continue along a path where economic hardship is normalized, and temporary concessions are celebrated as major achievements, while cost of living crisis takes a new level. Without a fundamental reconsideration of the policies driving the hardship, temporary interventions will remain inadequate.

“The choice before Nigerians is therefore a choice between the continuation of the present economic crisis, occasioned by the failures of an inept administration and a credible alternative that places human welfare, economic opportunity and accountable governance at the centre of national policy.

“The Makinde/Daura ticket offers that alternative through its RESET NIGERIA Agenda anchored on responsible economic management, transparent resource governance, and productive investment, makes the difference.

“Nigeria needs a complete RESET under a Makinde Presidency and not this propaganda-driven administration that have failed in all ramifications,” it stated.
