Planned R-APC Defection: Police Lock Down Saraki, Ekweremadu’s Residences
In what appears a desperate move to stop the planned defection of majority of Senators and members of the House of Representatives from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), the police at 6:00am on Tuesday blocked the entry and exit ways to the residence of the President of the Senate, Dr. Bukola Saraki.
This is just as men of the Department of State Services (DSS), and the police have surrounded the residence of the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ike Ekweremadu thereby preventing anyone from either entry or going out of the house located at the Apo Legislative quarters of Abuja.
It was gathered that the President of the Senate, Dr Saraki had prepared and was about leaving his house to honour the invitation extended to him last night by the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Ibrahim Idris when his convoy was blocked by a detachment of the Nigeria Police that already position their vehicles in a way that no vehicle could drive in or out of the Lake Chad residence of Saraki.
Based on the IGP Monday night invitation, Saraki was scheduled to report at the head of the police Investigation team at the Intelligence Response Team, located at Guzape Junction, Asokoro Extension, Abuja today at 8am for further investigation on the matter.
As at the time of filing the report, officers and men of the Nigerian Police Force have refused Saraki passage to leave his residence.
It was also gathered that men of the DSS and police have condoned off the National Assembly with a view to prevent suspected members of the factional Reformed All Progressives Congress (R-APC), from gaining access to the Assembly.
Forefront gathered that members of the R-APC had finalized plans to defect today on the floor of both the Senate and House of Representatives chambers.
The development may have sent serious jitters into the spines of the Presidency and the APC that would automatically become a minority party in the two chambers.
Further checks revealed that there might be a guided and guarded plan to get some few members of the APC that would be allowed into the Chamber of the Senate to effect the impeachment of both Saraki and Ekweremadu in their absence.
