Police Arrest Another Taraba Kidnap Kingpin, Interrogate Prominent Politicians
BY AMEH IDUJAGI, JALINGO – The efforts of the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Intelligence Response Team (IRT), from Force Headquarters, Abuja to rid Taraba State of rampant cases of kidnapping and armed robbery is already yielding positive results.
This followed the arrest of one Fuski Angulu, believed to be one of the suspected kidnap kingpin on Takum Local Government Area of the State.
Dependable police source confided in our correspondent that Fuski Angulu, allegedly believed to be behind most of the cases of kidnapping and armed robbery in Southern Taraba was arrested in Takum and whisked to Abuja following a tip off.
It was further gathered that upon interrogation, Fuski mentioned one Idi Shaidan, as a member of his gang based in Jalingo, who also mentioned the names of a former Special Adviser to the Governor of Taraba on Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), Alhaji Salejo Damburan, a serving Councillor in Jalingo Local Government Council, Alhaji Shagari Umar.
The police source said Damburam, Shagari and Sunday Kona were subsequently arrested and interrogated by the IRT police team, who also searched their houses.
It was also gathered that Alhaji Salejo Damburam and Alhaji Shagari Umar were released on bail while Idi Shaidan, Sunday Kona and some members of their gang numbering about seven were taken to Force Headquarters, Abuja.
Our correspondent also gathered that a Toyota Hilux and 406 Peugeot belonging to Damburam and Shagari including a Hummer Bus alleged to be the operational vehicle of Fuski Angulu were conveyed to the Force Headquarters, Abuja by members of the IRT team.
Speaking to Journalists in Jalingo on the incident, the former Special Adviser on MDGs denied allegations of his involvement in any criminal activities even as he confirmed that he was arrested by the IRT but was released after obtaining his written statement.
Damburam said that he knew Idi Shaidan as one of the boys that have been terrorising his house and his water company in Jalingo, adding that he had reported Idi Shaidan to the Directorate of State Service (DSS) and the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) in Jalingo severally, adding that as a result, Idi vowed to implicate him.
He dismissed as false the claim of Idi Shaidan that he supplied them with guns and operational vehicles.
