BY ADEYEMI AKANJI, BAUCHI – The Police Command in Bauchi State has arrested one Lawal Nasiru, 28 years old Tsangaya School/Qur’anic teacher of Unguwar Jarmai Darazo, headquarters of Darazo Local Government Area of the State for brutality, assault, causing grievous hurt, criminal force and wrongful confinement of the child.
The police command stated that Nasiru allegedly used a thick rope and inhumanely tied an Almajiri, one Sani Abdullahi (a minor), attached to his Tsangaya School, and used heavy stick and thick cable to beat and injured him.
As a result, the minor sustained various degrees of injuries in his hands and legs.
A statement by CSP Mohammed Ahmed Wakil, the Public Relations Officer of the Police command stated that on September 22, 2025, at about 1600hrs, one Idris Mohammed aged 50, of Gidan Waya, Darazo, attached to the Social Welfare, Darazo LGA, in company of a minor named Sani Abdullahi, aged 11, of Nahuta, Katsina State, reported at the Divisional Police Headquarters, Darazo that on 21st September 2025 at about 1300hrs, he was brutalized.
Wakil said that upon receipt of the report, a team of policemen led by the DPO of Darazo division, SP Auwalu Ilu, was drafted to the scene of the crime and arrested the suspect while the victim was taken to General Hospital, Darazo for medical examination and assessment.

He further said that during interrogation, the suspect confessed to have committed the crime, and stated that the boy was trying to run away from the (Tsangaya) school.
Nasiru told the police that if the little boy had eventually run away, he would not be in a position to know where the pupil would go which formed the reason why he tied him with a rope before his parents came.
However, the victimised minor narrated to the police how the suspect mercilessly tied him with a thick rope and confined him for a long time for reasons only known to the suspect.
The Commissioner of Police, Bauchi State Police Command, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, has directed that the case be transferred to State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Bauchi, for discreet investigation.
The Spokesperson of the police said that investigation is ongoing, adding that after completion, the suspect will be profiled and charged to court for the offence.
