Police Burst Terrorists’ Informant Network In Katsina

The Police Command in Katsina State have arrested an underage boy, Umar Hassan – 13years and three other suspects namely, Lawai Umaru, 70 years, Ibrahim Lawai, 22years and Abdulganiyu Isah, 22years for serving as informants to terrorists.

This was disclosed the Police Public Relations Officer of the Katsina State command, ASP Abubakar Sadiq while briefing journalists who said the activities of the arrested informants’ led to several attacks on villages and unsuspecting members of the public including cattle rustling and kidnapping among others in the State.

The spokesperson of the police in Katsina, said that Umar Hassan suspect was arrested following intelligence on his nefarious activities in which he specialised in providing information on villages and potential targets to suspected armed bandits.

ASP Sadiq further said that in the course of investigation, the suspect confessed to the committing the offence and also mentioned one Abba, now at large, as his accomplice, adding that the 13 years old Umar Hassan also confessed to being part of the gang that attacked Unguwar Bawa village several times, duing which they kidnapped and rustled animals.

Sadiq further said; “On July 3, 2024, at about 0800 hrs, the command, in collaboration with members of the Katsina State Community Watch Corps (KSCWC) attached to Dansoda village, Dandume LGA, Katsina State, succeeded in arresting one Umar Hassan, m., age 13, residing at Sheik Abdullahi quarters of Dandume town, Dandume LGA, in connection with a suspected case of aiding and abetting armed banditry.

It was however gathered that intelligence on their activities of Lawai Umaru, Ibrahim Lawai, and Abdulganiyu Isah, all of Babbar Ruga village, Batagarawa Local Government Area of Katsina State, were arrested for providing sensitive information to a suspected notorious terrorists’ leader, Mustafa Dan Gambo, who is presently at large.

The police command in Katsina, also announced that it has arrested one Musaddik Abdullahi of Kofar Kaura quarters, Katsina, Katsina State, who is a known member of a notorious kidnapping syndicate.

ASP Sadiq said the suspect was arrested following a letter of complaint on the disappearance of one Isiya Lawal of Sabuwar Unguwa quarters, Katsina.

In the words of ASP Sadiq; “The Commissioner of Police, Katsina State Command, Aliyu Abubakar Musa detailed the command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit (AKU) for discreet investigation.

“Promptly, the OC AKU led a team of detectives swung into action and successfully traced and arrested the suspect in connection with the disappearance of the victim.

“During the course of interrogation, the suspect confessed to being part of a four-man kidnapping syndicate that kidnapped the victim, demanded a sum of six hundred thousand naira (₦600,000.00k) as ransom, and subsequently killed the victim,” he said.

The police spokesman said that investigations in the cases are still ongoing.
