Police Launch Manhunt For Killers Of Anambra Lawmaker
The lifeless body of kidnapped member of the Anambra State House of Assembly, Hon. Justice Azuka, has been found by security operatives near the Second Niger Bridge.
Azuka, the member representing Onitsha North 1 Constituency in the Anambra State House of Assembly, was abducted on December 24, 2024, along Ugwunaobankpa Road in Inland Town, Onitsha, while returning home for Christmas.
A joint security team discovered the decomposing body of Azuka, who was elected under the Labour Party (LP) platform, near the 2nd Niger Bridge in the early hours of Thursday.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for Anambra State Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, released a statement saying; “In the early hours of today, February 6, 2025, at the Second Niger Bridge, the joint security team comprising the Police and AVG Operatives, on a mission to rescue Hon. Azuka, regrettably found his lifeless body at the scene.”
“As soon as I get more details, I will keep you updated, as the joint security team have taken over the scene and operation is ongoing for the possible arrest of the suspects involved, please.”
Assuring the public that investigations are ongoing and updates would be provided as the security team continues efforts to apprehend all suspects linked to the crime, Ikenga disclosed that some suspects have already been arrested, adding that it was these individuals who led the security operatives to the location where the lawmaker’s body was dumped.
He further confirmed that the authorities have intensified efforts to ensure that justice is served and to prevent further incidents of violence across the state.
The late lawmaker, a chieftain of the Labour Party, reclaimed his mandate following a court ruling that nullified the victory of Douglas Egbuna of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who was initially declared the winner of the 2023 election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
