Suspected bandits, in the early hours of Thursday, reportedly kidnapped the former Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier-General Maharazu Tsiga (rtd) in Tsiga village, Bakori Local Government Area of Katsina State.

Available reports indicated that General Tsiga was abducted alongside nine other residents while one person was felled by the bandits’ bullet in the attack

Eyewitness accounts said the bandits stormed the community at about 12.30 am on Thursday, shooting sporadically to scare residents and in the process, they ransacked several homes and carted away valuables.
.
Though details surrounding the abduction are still sketchy, competent sources hinted that another resident may have also been killed during the invasion.

An official statement was still being expected from the Police Command in Katsina State, even as the Spokesperson, DSP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, told reporters following inquiries that; “I am yet to be briefed on the facts of the reports. I’ll get back to you as soon as I get the details, please”.

Katsina State remains one of the hotbeds of banditry in the North West geo-political zone and the latest attack comes on the heels of Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, saying that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is putting security operatives under pressure to end insecurity across the country.

Badaru told BBC Hausa in a recent interview that; “We are under Tinubu’s pressure to end insecurity in Nigeria. He always inquires when the problem will end, because it is high time insecurity is tamed.

“We had a meeting with the President, the Service Chiefs, and the National Security Advisor (NSA). A lot was discussed. Mr president demanded the service chiefs to tell him when the problem would be brought to an end. They told him things would normalize by the end of the year.

“The service chiefs are very decisive in ending insecurity. They have taken measures to ensure it’s tamed within the shortest period possible.”
