BY VICTOR BUORO – The Commissioner of Police in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), CP Miller G Dantawaye, has confirmed the death of one police officer in a car accident that took place in Abuja on Wednesday.
CP Dantawaye also disclosed that another personnel sustained injury in the crash that occured around 2.20pm, along the Sani Abacha Expressway, near the National Ecumenical Centre in the nation’s capital.
He said preliminary investigation revealed that a mixer truck, driven by one Salman Usman of a construction company based in Wuse Zone 5, lost control and crashed at the location.
According to him, two police officers on official duty were affected by the crash, resulting in the unfortunate death of one officer, while the other officer who sustained injuries is currently receiving medical attention at an unnamed hospital
The Police boss said the unfortunate incident reflects the hazards and risks that officers face daily in the course of protecting lives and ensuring smooth traffic management within the FCT.
He said the affected vehicle driver has been taken into custody, while other vehicles involved in the accident have been recovered for further investigation and safety inspection.
The Police Commissioner, who extended his heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of the deceased officer, prayed for the quick recovery of the injured personnel.
