Police Probe Death Of 80-year-old Colombian In Lagos Hotel

The Lagos State Police Command says thorough investigation is being carried out on the death of an 80-year-old Colombian national, Quesada Vanegas Ricardo Alfonso.

The Octogenarian was found dead in his hotel room at the Golden Tulip Hotel, Festac Town, Lagos State.

According to the Command, Quesada’s lifeless body was discovered at about 3:45 p.m. on Thursday, 1st May 2025 in Room C85, located on the 8th floor of the hotel.

Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer (PRO), Benjamin Hundeyin, who confirmed the incident, said homicide detectives and other officers were immediately dispatched to the scene following a distress call from the hotel.

He said preliminary police investigations revealed that the deceased had been residing at the hotel for over four months.

However, there were no visible signs of violence or foul play observed on the deceased’s body.

Police sources disclosed that the corpse has since been transferred to the Mainland General Hospital morgue in Yaba, where it is being preserved for autopsy. A coroner’s inquest has also been initiated, alongside other legal procedures.

As part of the investigation, some members of the hotel’s management were temporarily detained for failing to maintain proper guest records. They were released after being questioned by authorities.

The Lagos State Police Command has assured the public that it is continuing a thorough investigation to determine the exact cause of Mr Alfonso’s death.
