Police To Recruit 3,000 Every Year – Idris
BY EMMANUEL EKO, ABUJA – The Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Kpotun Idris, has disclosed that the Nigeria Police Force is to recruit 3,000 personnel every year in order to meet up with the United Nations policy of at least 400 people to one policeman.
Speaking when he commissioned a 64-room Police Command Headquarters donated by the Nasarawa State Government on Thursday in Lafia, the police boss stressed the need for security networking across the country, adding that it was the sole responsibility of all Nigerians to put in their maximum support so as to stimulate the force in curtailing acts inimical to nation-building.
Commending the efforts of Governor Tanko Umar Al-Makura, the police boss urged individuals to emulate the leadership style of the governor, adding, “I want assure the state governor of maximum usage of this structure to ensure that citizens in and around the state are adequately protected always.”
Speaking at the event, Governor Al-Makura charged the IGP to raise the standard of officers’ recruitment, saying he was “determined to donate the new Police Command Headquarters to the Nigeria Police Force as a source of encouragement for them to put in their best towards the protection of live and properties.”
The governor further said that universal policing has gone digital, and noted that there was need to increase the capacity of officers and men of the Nigeria Police in order to meet the challenges of modern policing.
According to the Nasarawa state governor, “This administration being encouraged by the gallantry and resilience of the Nigeria Police Force, find it expedient to construct a befitting edifice and donate same to the force as its state headquarters.
“It is heart-warming to acknowledge that the complex being commissioned today is one of the biggest police command headquarters in the country.”
