BY AMEH IDUJAGI, JALINGO – Some of the major political parties in Taraba state have expressed disappointment over the postponement of the Presidential and National Assembly elections by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

In his comment, the spokesman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state, Alhaji Inua Bakari said the party in the state was deeply disappointed in the decision of INEC to shift the polls after people had travelled to various places to cast their votes.

Bakari noted that it was unfortunate that the commission which had a long time to plan the elections could make Nigerians to travel in vain to their places for election.

He said; “We are so disappointed at the Commission’s decision to shift the elections at the dying minute. PDP in the state was fully prepared to win the elections only to be disappointed by the late decision by INEC.”

Bakari however said that the PDP would win the elections in the state at any time it would be conducted.

On his part, the Taraba state Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mr Aaron Artimas, also condemned the decision of INEC to shift the polls at the last minute.

Artimas said; “APC in the state is very disappointed by the shift of election date by INEC after all preparations were made by the party to win the elections.

“You know we are in the opposition party in the state, so we have exhausted the little funds we were able to raise for the election only to hear of the disappointing announcement.”

Artimas however asked the party’s supporters to be calm and support the decision of the commission, saying their victory can only be delayed but cannot be denied.

Speaking in the vein, Mr Orema Iliya, the Taraba Chairman of Young Democratic Party (YDP), said the party in the state was disappointed in the electoral body over the poll shift.

Iliya said the YDP was fully prepared to emerge victorious at the polls in the state before the unfortunate announcement by INEC.
