BY ONYEKACHUKWU IBEZIM – In a swift political realignment, former Deputy Senate President Ovie Omo-Agege has officially jumped ship to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) just six days after resigning from the All Progressives Congress (APC).

According to a personally signed declaration on Thursday, May 28, 2026, Senator Omo-Agege also announced his bid to reclaim the Delta Central Senatorial District seat come 2027 general elections.

He explained that this strategic political move follows weeks of deep, introspective reflection and widespread consultations with grassroots supporters, party stakeholders, and political allies across Delta State.

The statement said: “I formally announce my decision to join the National Democratic Congress (NDC). This is the product of weeks of reflection, wide consultations, and honest conversations with the people I serve.”

The former lawmaker, who described the NDC as a credible platform built on inclusion, accountability, grassroots participation, and true federalism, commended the party’s leadership, particularly Senator Seriake Dickson (Leader and Founder), Senator Moses Cleopas (National Chairman), Mr. Peter Obi (Presidential Aspirant), and Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso for their efforts in placing the opposition party on the path of national prominence.

Clearly set to fully align with Peter Obi’s presidential bid, Senator Omo-Agege slammed the current governance structure in Delta State, lamenting the poor state of infrastructure despite the state’s huge federal allocations and vast natural resources, adding: “Delta State holds a position of immense responsibility in Nigeria as one of the largest producers of oil and gas. Yet the reality on the ground does not match this potential.”

He condemned the State’s deteriorating infrastructure, citing collapsed roads, inadequately equipped health centers, bursting classrooms, and rampant youth unemployment, claiming that this widespread neglect was a profound failure of leadership and a gross violation of the public’s trust.

Vowing that he is seeking a return to the Senate to champion effective representation, Senator Omo-Agege pledged to vigorously advocate for responsible resource management, massive job creation, upgraded healthcare and educational systems, and comprehensive infrastructural development across Delta Central and throughout the entire state.

Senator Omo-Agege, while promising not to be a “benchwarmer” in Abuja or silently compliance in the legislative chambers, pledged instead to be a vocal, relentless advocate for his district’s needs, saying he would actively bridge cultural and political divides, fostering a unified front across the Delta North, South, and Central senatorial zones.
This is also as he issued a powerful appeal to all constituents, spanning youths, women, elders, and traditional rulers—to seize control of their political destiny. He pressed every eligible citizen in Delta State to obtain and safeguard their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) so they could exercise their full civic duty ahead of the 2027 general election

The former Deputy Senate President further said: “This is more than an election cycle. This is a defining moment for Delta State and for Nigeria. Together, under the banner of the National Democratic Congress, we will reclaim Delta State. Together, we will reclaim Nigeria.”

Before sending shock-waves through the political establishment with his resignation from the ruling APC, Senator Omo-Agege defined an era as a major political figure in Delta State while steering the 9th Senate as its Deputy President.
